Rush vs Cloudflare Sandbox

Cloudflare's own tutorial runs Claude Code in a sandbox and stops at a diff. Rush starts at the same place and ends at the pull request.

The short answer

Pick Cloudflare Sandbox when you build on Workers and want sandboxes beside your app. Pick Rush when the agent should commit, open the pull request and leave a record.

The useful distinction

Cloudflare Sandbox: Linux microVM containers, or isolated Dynamic Workers, started from a Worker to run untrusted or agent-generated code. You build the agent loop.

A sandbox is a computer for an agent. You still write the agent loop, clone the repository, push the branch and decide when the work is done. Rush is the layer above: you send the task and get back the pull request, report or files.

Buyer questions

IsolationOne E2B microVM per run with its own disk, memory, desktop and browser. The container must start before the first command.

Where it taps outThree harnesses. Repositories through the GitHub App only. No self-host or customer VPC. The tutorial ends at a diff, with no pull request or proof.

Decision

When each side wins

Rush wins when

  • You want the commit, the pull request and its checks, not a diff.
  • You want the agent, its CLI version and its sign-in handled for you.
  • The run's transcript and artifacts come back on one record.

Cloudflare Sandbox wins when

  • You want very small instances (from 1/16 vCPU) billed per second, placed on Cloudflare's network.
  • You want Dynamic Workers isolates for cheap code execution.
  • Your app already lives on Workers, R2 and Durable Objects.

Rush

Where Rush sits

Cloudflare's coding agent runner returns a diff and tells the agent not to commit. A Rush run on a repository works on its own branch, opens the pull request, and is not completed until its checks pass.

Honest limits

Skip Rush if

  • Rush runs three agents: Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode. It does not host an agent you wrote yourself.
  • Repositories come through the Rush GitHub App. A GitLab or Bitbucket repository cannot be a run's repository yet.
  • There is no self-hosted or customer-VPC deployment, and we do not publish a compliance report today.
  • Compute is metered. Free includes 5 agent-hours a month and Pro 40, each with a weekly ceiling.
  • You review the pull request. Rush does not merge for you.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

Is Cloudflare Sandbox generally available?

Cloudflare's pages retrieved 17 October 2026 say it is available on the Workers Paid plan. They do not carry a GA label, and one scheduling feature is marked public beta.

Can I move from Cloudflare Sandbox to Rush?

Yes. The steps, from Cloudflare's own docs, are on the Migrate from Cloudflare Sandbox to Rush page. Code you already pushed stays where it is.

Does Rush need my own model account?

By default a run uses your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription or API key, and your provider bills the model calls. Rush meters the sandbox compute against your plan, and parked time is free.
