Rush vs Tembo
Tembo is the product closest to Rush: the same harnesses in cloud VMs, a sessions API, pull requests at the end. The differences are price, forges and how a run comes back.
Facts checked 17 October 2026. Prices and limits move. Read the citations.
Pick Tembo when you need more harnesses, GitLab or Bitbucket, or multi-repo pull requests. Pick Rush when you want a free start, webhooks and runs that park and resume.

The useful distinction
Tembo: an agent orchestration platform that runs Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Amp, OpenCode or Pi in a dedicated cloud VM per session, from GitHub, Linear, Jira, Slack, Sentry or PagerDuty events, and opens pull requests.
The useful split is who builds the agent. Most products here run their own. Rush runs Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode, the vendors' own CLIs, and returns the result with the record of how it was made.
Head to head
Buyer questions
| Question | Rush | Tembo |
|---|---|---|
| What runs | Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode, the vendors' own CLIs, or a saved agent built on one. | Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Amp, Pi and fx, with your subscription or key, including AWS Bedrock. |
| Isolation | One E2B microVM per run with its own disk, memory, desktop and browser. It parks between turns and is removed on cancel or after 7 idle days. | One dedicated Linux VM per session, from 2 vCPU and 2 GB up to 16 vCPU and 32 GB. Sandboxes are ephemeral; projects cache repositories and dependencies. |
| Result and pull request | A run on a repository works on its own branch and opens the pull request; a run whose checks fail ends needs_review, not completed. Reports and files come back as artifacts. | Opens pull requests on GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket, including coordinated pull requests across repositories. |
| MCP | Rush is an MCP server at api.prix.dev/mcp with 18 tools. A run also takes MCP servers by connection or inline. | Custom MCP servers, including OAuth and client-credentials authentication. |
| Team | Everyone in the org sees the same Projects and runs, with who started each. Automations start runs from GitHub events, schedules, webhooks and Linear. | GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Linear, Jira, Slack, Sentry and PagerDuty events; scheduled agents. SOC 2 Type II. |
| Starting price | Free 5 agent-hours / month; Pro $20; Team $200 | Free trial; Pro $60 / month with $60 of usage, up to 5 users; Max $200 / month |
| Where it taps out | Three harnesses. Repositories through the GitHub App only. No self-host or customer VPC. A key runs 4 at once by default, up to 100. | Pro caps at 5 users and medium sandboxes. Sandboxes are destroyed after the session. The API documents no webhooks. API keys expire after 90 days by default. |
Decision
When each side wins
Rush wins when
- You want a free plan with 5 agent-hours, and Pro at $20 rather than $60.
- Your server should hear back by webhook when a run finishes, not poll.
- A run should park with its memory between turns, instead of an ephemeral VM per session.
Tembo wins when
- You want Cursor, Amp or Pi as well as Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode.
- Your repositories are on GitLab or Bitbucket, or one change spans several repositories.
- You need a self-hosted or VPC option and SOC 2 Type II.
Rush
Where Rush sits
Rush and Tembo share an API shape. A Rush session also keeps its microVM between turns at no charge, posts a webhook when a turn ends, and ends needs_review when the proof is missing.
Honest limits
Skip Rush if
- Rush runs three agents: Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode. It does not host an agent you wrote yourself.
- Repositories come through the Rush GitHub App. A GitLab or Bitbucket repository cannot be a run's repository yet.
- There is no self-hosted or customer-VPC deployment, and we do not publish a compliance report today.
- Compute is metered. Free includes 5 agent-hours a month and Pro 40, each with a weekly ceiling.
- You review the pull request. Rush does not merge for you.
FAQ
Questions people actually ask
Does Tembo run Claude Code and Codex?
Yes. Tembo's docs say it is harness and model agnostic and list Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Amp and Pi, with your own subscription or key.
Can I move from Tembo to Rush?
Yes. The steps, from Tembo's own docs, are on the Migrate from Tembo to Rush page. Code you already pushed stays where it is.
Does Rush need my own model account?
By default a run uses your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription or API key, and your provider bills the model calls. Rush meters the sandbox compute against your plan, and parked time is free.
