# Tembo vs Devin

Tembo runs the coding CLIs you choose on events; Devin runs Cognition's agent. Tembo publishes its own Tembo vs Devin page.

Facts checked 15 September 2026. Prices and limits move. Read the citations.

Neither product is ours. Rush is, and it gets one paragraph below. Every cell is from the vendor's own pages.

**The short answer.** Pick Tembo to run Claude Code, Codex or others on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket events. Pick Devin for Cognition's agent and its integrations.

## The useful distinction

Tembo: an agent orchestration platform that runs Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Amp, OpenCode or Pi in a dedicated cloud VM per session, from GitHub, Linear, Jira, Slack, Sentry or PagerDuty events, and opens pull requests.

Devin: Cognition's own autonomous software engineer. It plans, writes, tests, and ships in a cloud Devbox. The Brain always stays in Cognition's cloud.

## Buyer questions

| Question | Tembo | Devin |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What runs | Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Amp, Pi and fx, with your subscription or key, including AWS Bedrock. | Cognition's compound agent. Third-party LLM API keys are not supported. |
| Isolation | One dedicated Linux VM per session, from 2 vCPU and 2 GB up to 16 vCPU and 32 GB. Sandboxes are ephemeral; projects cache repositories and dependencies. | One isolated VM (Devbox) per session. Snapshot boots; session changes do not write back. Outposts can run execution on customer machines; the Brain stays at Cognition. |
| Result and pull request | Opens pull requests on GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket, including coordinated pull requests across repositories. | Creates PRs on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or Azure DevOps. Stacked PRs on GitHub.com only. |
| MCP | Custom MCP servers, including OAuth and client-credentials authentication. | stdio, SSE, and HTTP MCP client, plus an official Devin MCP server at mcp.devin.ai. |
| Team | GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Linear, Jira, Slack, Sentry and PagerDuty events; scheduled agents. SOC 2 Type II. | Session UI with shell, IDE, and browser. Slack and Teams. Linear and Jira ticket triggers. Invite-team on Team and Enterprise. |
| Starting price | Free trial; Pro $60 / month with $60 of usage, up to 5 users; Max $200 / month | Pro $20 / month; Teams $80 minimum + $40 / full seat |
| Where it taps out | Pro caps at 5 users and medium sandboxes. Sandboxes are destroyed after the session. The API documents no webhooks. API keys expire after 90 days by default. | You cannot bring your own model keys. Ambiguous senior-scope work is out of scope by Cognition's own 2025 review. Quotas are opaque. |

## When each side wins

### Tembo wins when

- You want Cursor, Amp or Pi as well as Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode.
- Your repositories are on GitLab or Bitbucket, or one change spans several repositories.
- You need a self-hosted or VPC option and SOC 2 Type II.

### Devin wins when

- You want Cognition's agent with Slack, Teams, Linear and Jira triggers built in.
- You need pull requests on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps, and stacked pull requests on GitHub.
- You need Enterprise dedicated VPC or Outposts that run execution on your machines.

## Where Rush sits

Rush is on Tembo's side of the split, the vendors' own CLIs, with a free plan, webhooks and runs that park and resume.

## Skip Rush if

- Rush runs three agents: Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode. It does not host an agent you wrote yourself.
- Repositories come through the Rush GitHub App. A GitLab or Bitbucket repository cannot be a run's repository yet.
- There is no self-hosted or customer-VPC deployment, and we do not publish a compliance report today.
- Compute is metered. Free includes 5 agent-hours a month and Pro 40, each with a weekly ceiling.
- You review the pull request. Rush does not merge for you.
