# Rush vs OpenHands Cloud

Both run Claude Code and Codex in the cloud and open pull requests. OpenHands is open source; Rush is an API with a self-serve team plan.

**The short answer.** Pick OpenHands when you want open source, self-hosting or GitLab and Bitbucket. Pick Rush when a team wants a self-serve API that returns the pull request with proof.

## The useful distinction

OpenHands Cloud: the hosted version of OpenHands, an MIT-licensed coding agent platform. It works on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket repositories, and in the cloud also runs Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI.

The useful split is who builds the agent. Most products here run their own. Rush runs Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode, the vendors' own CLIs, and returns the result with the record of how it was made.

## Buyer questions

| Question | Rush | OpenHands Cloud |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What runs | Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode, the vendors' own CLIs, or a saved agent built on one. | The OpenHands agent, or Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI over ACP with your own token or key. |
| Isolation | One E2B microVM per run with its own disk, memory, desktop and browser. It parks between turns and is removed on cancel or after 7 idle days. | Sandboxed runtime per conversation. The docs describe Docker and remote sandboxes; which one Cloud uses is not stated. |
| Result and pull request | A run on a repository works on its own branch and opens the pull request; a run whose checks fail ends needs_review, not completed. Reports and files come back as artifacts. | Opens a pull request when it decides the issue is resolved, from an @openhands comment or an openhands label. GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket; Azure DevOps on Enterprise. |
| MCP | Rush is an MCP server at api.prix.dev/mcp with 18 tools. A run also takes MCP servers by connection or inline. | MCP client over SSE, Streamable HTTP and stdio, including OAuth servers. Cloud keeps the OAuth credential. |
| Team | Everyone in the org sees the same Projects and runs, with who started each. Automations start runs from GitHub events, schedules, webhooks and Linear. | Slack and Jira Cloud. Enterprise adds SAML, RBAC, audit logs and Jira Data Center. |
| Starting price | Free 5 agent-hours / month; Pro $20; Team $200 | Individual SaaS free with your own key or their models at cost; Enterprise custom |
| Where it taps out | Three harnesses. Repositories through the GitHub App only. No self-host or customer VPC. A key runs 4 at once by default, up to 100. | Older conversations pause to cap concurrency. A pull request mention works only on repositories added in the UI. Free is one user and 10 conversations a day. The GitHub token expires after 8 hours. |

## When each side wins

### Rush wins when

- A team needs a self-serve plan: Rush Pro is $20 and Team $200, with 5 free agent-hours to start.
- Runs should park at no charge between turns and wake with their memory, instead of pausing to cap concurrency.
- The result should be held to proof: a run whose checks fail ends needs_review, not completed.

### OpenHands Cloud wins when

- You want the agent to be open source (MIT) and able to run in your own VPC.
- Your repositories are on GitLab or Bitbucket as well as GitHub.
- You bring your own model key at no markup.

## Where Rush sits

OpenHands and Rush meet on the same harnesses. The difference is the contract: a Rush session is one request with an API key, it parks for free between turns, and its record holds the pull request, artifacts and transcript.

## Skip Rush if

- Rush runs three agents: Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode. It does not host an agent you wrote yourself.
- Repositories come through the Rush GitHub App. A GitLab or Bitbucket repository cannot be a run's repository yet.
- There is no self-hosted or customer-VPC deployment, and we do not publish a compliance report today.
- Compute is metered. Free includes 5 agent-hours a month and Pro 40, each with a weekly ceiling.
- You review the pull request. Rush does not merge for you.

## Questions people actually ask

### Does OpenHands Cloud run Claude Code?

Yes. Its docs say OpenHands Cloud runs only Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI among ACP agents, with your own Claude Code token or Anthropic key.

### Can I move from OpenHands Cloud to Rush?

Yes. The steps, from All Hands AI's own docs, are on the Migrate from OpenHands Cloud to Rush page. Code you already pushed stays where it is.

### Does Rush need my own model account?

By default a run uses your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription or API key, and your provider bills the model calls. Rush meters the sandbox compute against your plan, and parked time is free.
