# Devin vs Factory Droids

Both sell their own agent across Slack, the web and the IDE, at $20 to start. Devin works in a Devbox per session; Factory adds persistent computers on Plus.

Facts checked 15 September 2026. Prices and limits move. Read the citations.

Neither product is ours. Rush is, and it gets one paragraph below. Every cell is from the vendor's own pages.

**The short answer.** Pick Devin for Cognition's agent and Enterprise VPC or Outposts. Pick Factory for Droid in every surface and a computer that stays awake.

## The useful distinction

Devin: Cognition's own autonomous software engineer. It plans, writes, tests, and ships in a cloud Devbox. The Brain always stays in Cognition's cloud.

Factory Droids: Factory's own coding agents across terminal, IDE, browser, and Slack. Persistent Droid Computers keep the machine awake between sessions.

## Buyer questions

| Question | Devin | Factory Droids |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What runs | Cognition's compound agent. Third-party LLM API keys are not supported. | Factory Droid. Model choice includes GPT, Claude, and Gemini families. |
| Isolation | One isolated VM (Devbox) per session. Snapshot boots; session changes do not write back. Outposts can run execution on customer machines; the Brain stays at Cognition. | Managed computers: 4 CPU, 8 GB RAM, persist packages and files, auto-pause when idle. BYOM is also supported. |
| Result and pull request | Creates PRs on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or Azure DevOps. Stacked PRs on GitHub.com only. | Product page: one prompt to PR. Slack integration can open a PR and handle CI via a subagent. |
| MCP | stdio, SSE, and HTTP MCP client, plus an official Devin MCP server at mcp.devin.ai. | stdio, HTTP (recommended), legacy SSE. /mcp TUI and droid mcp CLI. Registry of 40+ servers. |
| Team | Session UI with shell, IDE, and browser. Slack and Teams. Linear and Jira ticket triggers. Invite-team on Team and Enterprise. | VS Code, JetBrains, Vim, browser, Slack, terminal. Org connectors for GitHub, Linear, Notion, Sentry. |
| Starting price | Pro $20 / month; Teams $80 minimum + $40 / full seat | Pro $20 / month; managed Droid Computers start at Plus $100 / month |
| Where it taps out | You cannot bring your own model keys. Ambiguous senior-scope work is out of scope by Cognition's own 2025 review. Quotas are opaque. | Managed computers are a Plus+ feature. Rate limits are unpublished. Remote Slack delegations are private preview. |

## When each side wins

### Devin wins when

- You want Cognition's agent with Slack, Teams, Linear and Jira triggers built in.
- You need pull requests on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps, and stacked pull requests on GitHub.
- You need Enterprise dedicated VPC or Outposts that run execution on your machines.

### Factory Droids wins when

- You want one agent across terminal, IDE, browser and Slack.
- You want a persistent managed computer that keeps packages and files.
- You want a registry of 40+ MCP servers and the droid mcp CLI.

## Where Rush sits

Rush is the third option: not a new agent, but Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode with a machine that parks for free between turns.

## Skip Rush if

- Rush runs three agents: Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode. It does not host an agent you wrote yourself.
- Repositories come through the Rush GitHub App. A GitLab or Bitbucket repository cannot be a run's repository yet.
- There is no self-hosted or customer-VPC deployment, and we do not publish a compliance report today.
- Compute is metered. Free includes 5 agent-hours a month and Pro 40, each with a weekly ceiling.
- You review the pull request. Rush does not merge for you.
