# Augment Cloud Agents vs Cursor Cloud Agents

Both run their own agent in cloud VMs and open pull requests from tickets and Slack. Augment adds its Context Engine; Cursor brings its editor's Agent.

Facts checked 15 September 2026. Prices and limits move. Read the citations.

Neither product is ours. Rush is, and it gets one paragraph below. Every cell is from the vendor's own pages.

**The short answer.** Pick Augment for its Context Engine, SOC 2 on every plan and GitLab. Pick Cursor Cloud Agents if the team already works in Cursor.

## The useful distinction

Augment Cloud Agents: Augment's cloud agents (Cosmos) take tickets, reviews and fixes from GitHub, GitLab, Jira, Linear and Slack, work in fresh sandboxed VMs with Augment's Context Engine, and open pull requests.

Cursor Cloud Agents: Cursor's local Agent, moved into isolated cloud VMs. Formerly called Background Agents. Available on paid Cursor plans.

## Buyer questions

| Question | Augment Cloud Agents | Cursor Cloud Agents |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What runs | Augment's Auggie agent. Claude Code and Codex use Augment's Context Engine as an MCP server; they are not documented as the cloud agent. | Cursor Agent fundamentals. Curated cloud model list. Not Claude Code, Codex, or OpenCode as the primary engine. |
| Isolation | A fresh sandboxed VM per session, started from a snapshot of your environment. A self-hosted daemon can run sessions on your own machine. | Firecracker microVMs in AWS. Auto-runs terminal commands. Privacy Mode supported; Legacy Privacy Mode is not. |
| Result and pull request | Opens pull requests on GitHub, GitHub Enterprise Server, GitLab Cloud and self-hosted GitLab. | Works on a separate branch and opens a draft PR. GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket Cloud. |
| MCP | MCP client for local, remote and OAuth servers. Its Context Engine is also an MCP server for other agents. | HTTP and stdio on Cloud Agents. SSE and mcp-remote are not supported in the cloud. |
| Team | GitHub, GitLab, Jira, Linear, Slack and Microsoft Teams. SOC 2 Type II on every plan; SSO, OIDC and SCIM on Enterprise. | Share a URL. Teammates need the same Cursor team and their own SCM access. Slack, Linear, GitHub, iOS, API. |
| Starting price | Standard $20 / month flat, up to 50 seats, $20 usage included; Business $100 / month | Pro $20 / month; Teams Standard $40 / user / month |
| Where it taps out | No free tier. A 40% fee on model usage. Self-serve plans cap at 50 seats and 50 concurrent sessions. A running session does not pick up environment updates. | Requires a paid Cursor plan and an environment snapshot. Multi-repo long-running is not available. Move-to-cloud drops uncommitted files. Prompt-injection risk is documented because commands auto-run. |

## When each side wins

### Augment Cloud Agents wins when

- You need SOC 2 Type II on every plan, and ISO 42001 and CMEK on Enterprise.
- Your repositories are on GitLab or GitHub Enterprise Server, and the team works in Microsoft Teams.
- You want Augment's codebase index, or sessions on your own machines through a daemon.

### Cursor Cloud Agents wins when

- Your team lives in Cursor and wants the same Agent and rules in the cloud.
- You want draft pull requests on GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps or Bitbucket Cloud.
- You want Slack, Linear, GitHub, iOS and API entry points from one vendor.

## Where Rush sits

Rush runs the model vendors' own CLIs instead, on your account, with no fee on model calls.

## Skip Rush if

- Rush runs three agents: Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode. It does not host an agent you wrote yourself.
- Repositories come through the Rush GitHub App. A GitLab or Bitbucket repository cannot be a run's repository yet.
- There is no self-hosted or customer-VPC deployment, and we do not publish a compliance report today.
- Compute is metered. Free includes 5 agent-hours a month and Pro 40, each with a weekly ceiling.
- You review the pull request. Rush does not merge for you.
